Free Bike Classes

Be a better urban biker! Get to know your bike, learn basic repairs and adjustments, and ride safely and confidently in traffic. Bike New York classes are:
  • Free for adults and children
  • Ideal for beginning cyclists and those uncomfortable riding on busy streets
  • Taught by instructors certified by the League of American Bicyclists
Take our quick Traffic Smarts Quiz to test your savvy and find out what class is right for you.

For Adults
  • Bike Commuting 101, a one-hour presentation to help your employees get started as bike commuters.
  • Bike Maintenance 101, a half-day class that teaches how to keep a bike tuned and running like new. Note that because this class is offered in conjunction with Recycle-A-Bicycle, there is a modest fee for participants.
  • Learn to Ride--Adults teaches an easy, safe way to master the skill of bicycling.
  • Savvy Cyclist, a basic bicycle skills course for adults and teens, teaches simple maintenance and repair as well as important traffic skills. (This is a League of American Bicyclists Road I course.)
For Children (and Parents)
  • Bike Driver's Ed uses a short film, a fun quiz, and other interactive activities to teach kids and their parents the basics of bike safety.
  • Learn to Ride--Kids shows parents and children an easy, safe way to learn to ride in just an hour or so! Winner of a 2007 Best of Parks Award!
