Boat from NYC to Bear Mountain
Bike from Bear Mountain to NYC

Commemorate the 400-year anniversary of Henry Hudson's voyage up the beautiful river that now bears his name by taking a boat ride and a bike ride through the Highlands and Palisades. Board a chartered ferry for a cruise and history lesson from Manhattan to Bear Mountain, and then ride back to New York on the west side of the river. After the ride, share your photos via the Flickr pool.

While this ride offers a great chance to ride in the scenic Bear Mountain region without having to do a century, the route is hilly with heavy traffic in some areas. Please make sure you are prepared.
  • Ferry ride from Manhattan followed by 46-mile bike route from Bear Mountain, or 52-mile bike ride if you start in Garrison and skip the ferry
  • Scenic, challenging route through riverside towns and parks
  • Well-stocked rest areas, full SAG support
  • Free T-shirt

Please note that the ferry is full, but you can still do the ride by starting in Garrison (accessible via train from New York City; see Getting There).

The Henry Hudson Ride is organized by Bike New York in partnership with New York 2009!, a non-profit organization dedicated to sponsoring events for the 400th celebration of Henry Hudson's historic third voyage.
